The spineless Democrats do this simple calculation:

1 Oppose the war-

If they do that and things DO improve, they're screwed. If they do that and the US gets struck again, they'll be demonized.

2 Stay the course -

They may be hated by the peace lovers, but probably less than the Republicans. If the war continues to go south, remind everyone it's Bush's war, and you're just hanging on because of the "pottery barn rule".

The Dems keep thinking they have to appeal to everyone but, in reality, they only have to appeal to 51%. They just have to get those 51% out to vote AND certify that the vote is fair.

Since Dems are still the largest group around, this shouldn't be this big a problem. They need to take a strong stance as the opposition AND organize, organize, organize to get out the vote and protect their voters.
