I just got off the phone with my sister in North Mobile. She reported on all of my other relatives in the area. They are all OK. Loss of a few trees (neighbors have already helped them clear out the fallen trunks and limbs) and loss of power. However, her power had been restored as we talked.

As for my relatives in Biloxi and Gulfport, we have been unable to make contact since yesterday. As of yesterday, they were all safe with no loss of life or injuries. One had a tree land on his house and another had his auto crushed. But even their pets are safe.

I still have not been able to contact my friends in New Orleans. They are now in Houston as of an earlier contact prior to landfall. However, my doctor friend's home (just off St. Charles Avenue) is now underwater. It was 120 years old and had survived many hurricanes, had been completely restored to its original self and equipped with all of the latest conveniences as a part of the restoration. Now it is gone. His medical practice is also underwater and beyond being retrieved. He will have to start all over again.

But he is still better off than thousands of others whom you witness on Fox television coverage.

But thank you for your inquiry. Life will go on in New Orleans and along the Gulf Coast. And the area will come back as it has before.

(Cochrane Bridge, which you probably saw with the oil rig stuck underneath, is about ten miles from my two sisters' home.)
