Yes, they all rode it out. They all had animals and pets that they couldn't leave behind. But they have ridden out all of them.

When I lived on Mobile Bay, 1993-1999, I went through five hurricanes myself. And, although my home was right on the Bay, I rode out all of them too. Not that I did not suffer damage to my property. But the house was built with hurricanes in mind and stood about 25 feet above the level of the land with parking underneath. This saved me from flooding. I lost trees, half of my front yard, my bulkheads and piers, my boathouse, and a guest house that was not raised as was the main house. But all of that was restored.

The only thing that cannot be restored is life itself. And much life has been lost to Katrina. It will takes weeks for the true death count to emerge.
