sandintoes, I had heard from a couple of news sources that the New Orleans main airport had opened for flights of humanitarian nature (and ONLY those types of flights) and did not mean to imply that it was open for commercial passenger flights.

I would say evacuating critically ill people, people who have not eaten or had much fresh water in a couple of days, and who are now living in a veritable war zone, with all the attending ramifications, would qualify as being of a humanitarian nature.

And I agree wholeheartedly with your post from another thread, blasting all these toothy, beautifully coiffed and blow-dried officials from the devastated areas, elected and appointed, mugging and spewing politically motivated platitudes to the cameras on the various talk shows.

I realize the importance of getting the word out to the rest of the world and the comfort and sometimes reassurance these appearances can bring to the friends and loved ones of those still trapped within the disaster zones; however, the ones I am thinking of have carried it to extremes and, after a couple of days of this buck-passing and feigned surprise at the extent of the devastation which has occurred, I think I am very much feeling the need of the Barrett Bucket. - Holly
