To: epicure who wrote (22396 ) 9/1/2005 12:10:11 PM From: Solon Read Replies (1) | Respond to of 28931 I have just reread your previous post and my response. You may believe that I misunderstood you but I do not believe that I did. I will repeat part of what I just said:"How many posts do I read on SI? VERY FEW! How many do I have on "ignore"...NONE!! If people in the food court are disturbing my peace of mind, I leave. If they are abusing their freedom of speech or behavior, I can call the authorities. But I NEVER manipulate the system to get INNOCENT people kicked out, just because they have opinions--and because their opinions are (according to me)--POOP". _______________________"You want to force people to offer pooop at every stand " I think you are misunderstanding me. SI stands do not dispense either asparagus or poop--they dispense opinions. Provided those opinions are lawful and within the TOU, they ought to be considered the "personal preference" that SI ADMIN strives to encourage and permit. It is inappropriate to dot the food court with FORTS that prevent free association and expression. These FORTS create ill will and they encourage bigotry and prejudice. These FORTS create an artificial and nasty human experience. If you think Clinton was a good president, you are a "lying leftist wacko"--BANNED. If you think Bush is a good president, you are a "red neck right wing ejaculation"--BANNED. Now, 80 % of the thread might have opinions somewhere in between. If anybody should take a walk here--it should be the thread head. Most SI MEMBERS are NOT afraid of opinions and believe that they sometimes learn from human interaction. In any case, how difficult is it for a mature adult to NOT EAT asparagus if they don't like asparagus? Really? Is it like some sort of internal struggle? When you pick a book out of a library do you go nuts in the effort because you cannot ignore the ones you don't wish to read? Would it be easier to say: "back to ignore for you, Buddy Boy", and then click on each book and read them over breakfast?? I go to the food court sometimes. Their system seems to work out rather well. This is how they have worked it out (after millions of years). You buy and eat the food from any kiosk you desire (in this case your "membership" is citizenship rather than a business contract based on cash). You then sit at any table you choose and associate with whomever you like and express whatever opinions you prefer. Provided you act within the bounds of human decency (no spitting, yelling, etc.) NOBODY from any individual kiosk and NOBODY from management will bother you. If the people at your table or bench are calling Clinton a "lying leftist wacko" and that bothers you, then YOU have the right to take another seat. You also have the right to tell them to go to Hell. You DO NOT have the right to make THEM leave because THEIR opinion pisses YOU off. Because it is not about YOU. It is about US . They have freedom of speech and freedom of association--AND SO DO YOU. It is a wonderful world when people have these rights.
