I think I heard on TV (or somewhere) that they had to suspend search and rescue and distribution of relief supplies because of security. While people are dying.

This is horrible, I never even imagined things getting this bad in this country.

I've seen it all before.....during the riots in LA in 1992. To get home, I had to ride on sidewalks, run red lights, avoid looters.........got shot at a couple of times....what normally took a half hour drive during rush hour took 2 hours during the middle of the day. The police refused to do much. Fires were everywhere.....riots in almost every part of the city. The city burned for a week afterwards.......everywhere the air was thick with smoke.....you couldn't breathe. It was a nightmare. For a year afterwards, you went to bed hearing gun shots all over the city.

A similar situation is unfolding in NO. In LA, the magnitude of the riots was in part due to an ongoing feud between the mayor and the police chief. Neither would cooperate with each other after the riots broke out.

In NO, the magnitude of the problem is due to Bush and Congress siphoning off money for improvements to the levees in NO. Incompetence in LA; incompetence in DC.
