No doubt, stones from Madagascar and Australia are sold as Burmese and Sri Lankan stones. The rumour is that the good quality Burmese and Sri Lankan rubies and sapphires are mined out, but of course people want to buy Burmese and Sri Lankan because that is the source historically associated with high quality stones. The ironic thing is that stones that are not Burmese are called Burmese, but also Burmese stones are called something else for US customs because Burmese stone imports are supposed to be sanctioned and illegal.

There is really such a load of crap relating to false origination, questionable enhancements, attempted frauds with the stones, support of rebels groups, exploitation of the gem miners, etc with South Asian and African stones that it would really be a breath of fresh air to have alternative, trusted supplies from Canada and Greenland. I think that the world really needs it and would appreciate it.
