Actually someone like a Ross Perot put in charge would have had people doing airdrops probably on Tuesday/Wednesday. He cuts through the BS, and he got things done.
Of course, he ruffled feathers, and he was kind of eccentric, but would have been great in charge of the relief effort now.

The country is leaderless. Looks like they'll just let those people die all over New Orleans. No damn excuse for not dropping food, water and meds. No excuse not to have swarms of choppers lifting people out.

What about the hundreds or thousands in the burbs who are trapped in their upper floors or attics? Are they just going to quietly let them die, and then announce that it's been turned into a recovery operation.

Remember Dunkirk... that type of effort is needed to get to the people trapped in the burbs. Can't get them all by chopper as many will be unable to signal outside that they are there.

Drop in a special forces squad to take out the snipers at the hospital and evacuate the hospital. If it was an Arab terrorist squad doing the shooting one can just imagine the enormity of the response. Everyone would be out of that hospital by now. It's disgraceful.

Chopper in a few elected blowhards and get them on the bullhorn flying overhead to tell the crowds at the dome, convention center etc what's being done and when. Once they get a bit of food, water, a bit of lifesaving work, and hear from elected officials, you may be able to calm them down enough to get most of them out without incident.

I'm sensing a severe lack of necessary equipment in all of this inaction. They've got a load of choppers set to arrive next week. That's just too late.

Where are the men like Patton? Grab a grandmother out of the Superdome and put her in charge and watch things get done right now. I wonder if they are even consulting with the victims to understand the problems. Those still in attics apparently are having to struggle with snakes, alligators and other creepy crawlies that don't wish to drown. . . so together they fight for remaining air.

Those in shelters are undergoing PTSD. Then there is the real stresses of the day, like not knowing what is to become of them. Are a sufficient number of counselors available to treat them?

They all wish and need to bathe. Are accommodations being delivered that will address this problem or will it be more of the same? They will soon require some privacy, if only to hear themselves think. They nearly all wish to communicate with a loved one. Is there a plan to restore cell towers first, then hand out cell phones?

I did see where the red cross in Baton Rouge, I believe, was handing out sheets of paper for refugees to write email addresses of loved ones (if they can remember them), and so they can write them a note. That is the type of forward thinking I am talking about.

I remember the FEMA directors all using the phrase, we are "leaning forward" so that resources will be in place when needed. That was apparently a lie, because any leaning forward was happening 50-100 miles away from where it was needed most.

But yet, an amateur storm watcher from California comes TO New Orleans area so that he can witness the fury of a hurricane first hand. . .and has the wherewithal to figure out that he can ride out the storm safely from inside a multi-level parking deck at one of the Biloxi casinos. He was safe from rain and debris, and short a direct hit from an oil rig or a casino barge would have a birdseye view of the destruction. I'll bet his car is still driveable.

Put him in charge.
