Well you might keep two phones, but I doubt you'd use it (a sat phone) as you primary cell phone. First of all, I believe satellite phones are line of sight (so they don't work in buildings, if a tall building is blocking out the satellite, or under overpasses). I don't know if they will even work if you're sitting in the cab of a truck or car. Second the cheapest phone (for military) is $600, for you its about twice as much - and the rate plans charge at least $1.00/min.
