I had heard that.

When we had the big earthquake in CA in 1989 the response was so good, and people were really fairly decent, and help was here very quickly.

They put many of them in a large building or center just next to the Astrodome, and are busing others to San Antonio.

I cannot believe this is happening in our Country..
It DIDN'T happen in your country. (Although,if the BBC said so and it was nasty about us, perhaps it must be true.)

When the Astrodome reached its capacity, rather than allow the situation to grow unmanageable, the overflow was sent to the Astro Hall, and preparations were started to open Reliant Center, which is also very close. I have a good friend doing volunteer work there.
Reunion Arena in Dallas is taking in thousands and something like 150 shelters are open across the state. Another friend, a social worker, will be working the entire three day weekend processing people. Texas is doing a hell of a job.
It really is depressing to read this thread today.
