The mayor could have evacuated these buses before the storm but didn't: tinypic.com The mayor and governor could have put a stop to the incessant looting earlier with a few dead looters(and rapists). Instead, they let them take over and now the situation is worse. The mayor is doing interviews when he could be down there calming people. Interviews are for later. Remember Giulani in the days after 9/11? Rudy didn't do interviews. This guy is no Giulani. Rescue helicopters at the Superdome and elsewhere were shot at and had to suspend operations. Recue boats were hijacked by people with guns. Buses were hijacked by people with guns. Without order there is chaos, and in chaos how can one expect relief to arrive? The police department in NO is one of the most corrupt in the nation, and some precincts are now having their officers turn in their badges at a rate of 20-30%. With all of the above, how can anyone blame Bush for this entire mess? To put the blame solely and squarely on Bush is naieve. The people running this on the federal level I do not believe are incompetent, but their level of intensity must be moved up a few notches. And it goes without saying that anyone who shoots at rescuers or rapes people should be shot and killed immediately and without question.
