"But it's going to take a long time."

Yeah. The mayor claims there are 50k people still on roofs. Having been on a roof in the summer, I can't imagine being stuck on a roof for a week.

On one roof, there were people from Scotland with some white Americans they had not known before the hurricane. The Americans in a sense were trying to protect them from the mostly blacks who were looting the city and so moved them to a roof. You know how fair skinned the Scots are.........they were both burned badly from the NO sun. They were terrified.........absolutely and completely terrified. I am sure there was nothing in Scotland that could have prepared them for what they were experiencing. The woman kept repeating......I just want to go home.....please let me go home.

There were more Brits staying on a roof of a hotel who finally made it to Kenner, LA. A black guy and his girlfriend helped them get out......they had paid $2500 to someone who was going take them and ten others to the airport in Atlanta. The bus never showed up. They were in the middle of NO on a freeway ramp and did not know where to go when the couple showed up and lead them out of the city on foot. Its quite amazing that that has to happen in an American city but it ain't the first time and it won't be the last so long as we maintain the kind of system we have in place.

They must be drinking the flood water. As anyone from this climate knows, if you are outside in August, even doing nothing, you lose a lot of water every hour. You wouldn't last 48 hours without hydrating, absolutely no way. God knows what kind of medical problems these folks are going to have from that "water stew", assuming they survive to get rescued.

Breaking news:

Huge oil spill on the Mississippi downstream from NO. There go oil prices again.
