"They must be drinking the flood water."

Yes. As you note, the medical implications of that are staggering. Now they are say there are over 200k in New Orleans. The death toll will dwarf the WTC. There just isn't any way to avoid that.

Really? That would explain a lot. I couldn't understand if there were 25K at the superdome and 20K at the convention center, how there could be so much chaos with only 50K left throughout the entire city.

All because Bush gutted FEMA. If the levees had been reinforced, they might not have broken. Maybe it would have happened any way. But FEMA failed in all of its functions in a way that boggles the imagination. They might not have been able to do anything about the ones that drowned, although you have to think with more people doing S&R even that might have been mitigated. But the deaths from malnutrition, inadequate medical care and disease picked up from the conditions can be laid directly on their door step. There was just a complete failure to take the steps that have always been done in the past.

Its a travesty. When this is all said and done, there had better be a thorough investigation........ a real one and not an imaginary one based on myths and with a reporting date that is not two years into the future.

The whole neocon agenda of making individuals supreme instead of promoting the common good as the constitution was written for is the cause of this week's tragedy. It's not just a levee or a wetlands or a retirement system, it's the whole concept that the government is in place to provide common services that overwhelm all but the most rich individuals.
