Drudge links to this picture (linked below) of flooded school buses in New Orleans and asks:
WHY DIDN'T YOU DEPLOY THE BUSES DURING THE MANDATORY
EVACUATION, MAYOR?...
Hmmm, good question. Much of the problem has been the poor of New Orleans who couldn't get out of the city during the evacuation. Was there a plan in place to get those people out before the hurricane struck? I haven't heard anything about those sorts of efforts. They had to know that this would be a problem and to have had a plan to provide transportation for those without their own car. Junkyardblog has some more thoughts on those buses (linked below).

UPDATE five minutes later: And now I'm ticked at myself. I'm so sick of all the recriminations blaming everything on Bush and here I am blaming the local leaders. Sorry. But the sight of those flooded buses that could have been used is so very frustrating. We're all so horrified by the story of what is happening on the Gulf Coast that the first instinct is to be angry and pick some target. This is not healthy when we should be pulling together at this time. I'll try to let 24 hours go by before I post any more recriminations.
