Playing God is so satisfying, so much fun.

OK, here's a thought. "Playing God in Yellowstone," harshly criticized the National Park Service for mistakes in managing the park, perhaps justifiably so. Part of the problem was that nobody had ever done such a thing before, and nobody really understood the scope of the need. These people made mistakes, but they were doing their best.

Let's apply those same standards to the management of New Orleans, a city built where the risks and consequences of natural disasters like Katrina were obvious and inescapable.

The Park Service sited a service area in a location where it 'might' affect the ecosystem adversely, and some people thought it was criminal neglect. If that is criminal neglect, then what is a proportionately just charge for those responsible for the development of New Orleans in view of what is happening right now?

If the Yellowstone volcano ever erupts, then we will see a natural disaster greater than Katrina ever dreamt of.
