I'm staying in a very nice neighborhood near the Hou. Country Club, beautiful homes, money dripping off everything, but if there is any soul, any spirit, any mystery, or any sense of history, I haven't found it. I might not be looking in the right places

They're putting you up in the fancy digs, I see. :) The Houston Country Club is the closest thing to a decent parkland in the city. You're right about the lack of history - the flaw of Houston is that it grew too big, too fast. That's the root of everything that's wrong with it.

The people in the Houston metro area are great, for the most part. The best people I met there are from the outskirts - Conroe, Humble, League City, Katy, Fulshear, Victoria. Salt of the earth.
