Now what, pray tell is an excessive profit margin??? What law specifies what constitutes an excessive maargin. My guess is that the pols will decide what is excessive ater the fact.

I encourage all to study the recent history of th utility and IPP melt down after California started pulling this nonsense. It happened in the summer of '02. Do you think we have outlawed political stupidity since then??? Think again. Your O&G investments are at serious risk here. i have felt this burn twice now. Perhaps I am posting on emotion, perhaps the voice of wisdom and experience. Check out the utility ETFs (IDU) and (UTH) from '02:

Re the U.S. politicians call for capping oil profits, this has got to be a good reason to love Canada. Only one of my 14 energy stocks is an E&P company selling to U.S. markets and 9 are Canadian E&P or oilsands. Not that Canada hasn't had some foolish energy policies in the past, but for the moment it looks like the place to be.
