"Well, frankly it's just not a good idea to have a city below sea level... I dunno. Just a thought."

Nope, it is not. Nor is it a good idea to have a city close to a major river, built over several active faults or close to a volcano that goes active at unpredictable times. The fact of the matter is that we have a lot of cities in less than ideal locations.

I am not sure that's a justification to rebuild New Orleans. Having said that, I think New Orleans will be rebuilt because its probably cheaper to rebuild than to buy everyone out who owns property there.

I hope that the rebuilding effort will include strengthening the levees so they can withstand the most powerful of storms even if it means buying up properties around the levees to make them larger.

If you want to understand how this happened.......why things got as bad as it did in NO, go to NBC News website and check out their broadcast tonite. It all out and Brian Williams is pissed. I am impressed. He said tonite.......the mess was due to negligence, oil, racism, incompetence, the extent of the catastrophe etc. For an example, since 9/11, there have been 222 exercises carried about by FEMA. Only two were for hurricanes.......the rest were on terrorism. LSU had a whole plan to deal with a disaster in NO........Harris posted it on the thread. The feds laughed when they presented it. Not surprising, LSU was dead on what to do. There is so much that was screwed up. Last nite, they set up a triage in the NO airport for the sick. Three died overnite. The MDs were exasperated. It looked as if we were in a war and we were running from the enemy.

Like I said there is much more.....check out their site.
