PART-15.ORG Hurricane Katrina Relief Efforts

[FAC: With thanks to Dave Hughes ( oldcolo.com ), who posted the message below to the Cook Report discussion list. Dave provided a number of good suggestions concerning the use of 12 vdc access points/systems and the implementation of solar panels for powering, as opposed to 24 and 48 vdc systems, and powering through the use of cig lighter outlets from city vehicles. Skype, too, could work at that point, for a limited number of officials who need it in areas still without cellular services. Who'da thunk? As an added point of interest, two years ago Dave was instrumental in establishing, in collaboration with Gordon Cook and others, a base camp Cyber Cafe atop Mount Everest for climbers during the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of Sir Edmund Hillary’s first ascent. Because it was there. See: linkingeverest.com ]

part-15.org

General Information - PART-15.ORG in cooperation with
the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and
Federal Emergency Management (FEMA) is preparing a
Disaster Relief effort in support of and to
reestablish communications in the Disaster area after
Hurricane Katrina

Deployment Scenarios: - The FCC and FEMA is in a
desperate need to reestablish communications in the
disaster area. More specifically, the metropolitan
area of New Orleans and it's surrounding areas. P15's
coordinated efforts will handled through the
PART-15.ORG Disaster Relief Headquarters.

What can P15 and the WISPs do to help? We can
reestablish internal communications and provide
connectivity to all disaster relief efforts by
installing point to point, point to multipoint links,
IP Web cams to assist the police and fire departments
who can not be everywhere in such a large area, VoIP
phones to provide voice communications to relief
personnel in remote areas and many other types of
normal everyday communications that most people take
for granted.

To accomplish these goals, we will need not only the
License Exempt Industry as a whole, but local
communities, major companies, and all others that can
provide even the slightest of assistance to our teams.

P15 is in contact with Federal, State and Local
authorities to coordinate the PART-15.ORG Emergency
Relief Efforts. Please stand by for more information
as it becomes available. A discussion list is
available to ask and answer any questions regarding
this program. Please click here to join the discussion
Emergency-Relief.

Presently we are gathering the equipment and personnel
necessary to send three support teams, each lasting up
to two weeks. The main initial goal will be to
establish an immediate internal communications network
to be used by all emergency authorities. Once
accomplished, the next step will be to connect that
network to the internet for communication going
outside the disaster area (which is a large area).

Please consider donating to such a worthy cause. Our
deploying personnel need your help as well as those
suffering in the disaster area for lack of appropriate
communications infrastructure.
