Progress/ growth has to happen everywhere, I guess, but I I shudder at the thought of yet another 6-lane highway.

People can get out of the way. To a point. That doesn't work all the time. What was the French island in the Caribbean that had to be evacuated a few years ago? Mt. St. Helens pre-reignition didn't give any indication that it would go the way it did until it finally started bulging like a bloated over-eater. As I remember, we climbed Rangitoto. From below, it looked like such an easy little jaunt. Hah! But what a gorgeous view once I recovered sufficient stamina to stand up and look around.
