but the feds had authority to authorize use of commercial planes for support and did not do so....there is plenty of blame to go around.

Tell me, GZ...you are a reasonable guy..do you really think Mr. Brown, a failed administrator of the Arabian Horse Association (A position from which he was asked to leave) is qualified to head our national FEMA operation? Don't you feel heads of departments involving our safety and security should have SOME kind of prior experience? Would we really have the head of Homeland Security, for example, be a former bowling ally owner? I don't think America would feel that was acceptable. So why is head of FEMA not someone with experience in safety, security, logistical support, crisis management or health services?

Or is it just political patronage on such a critical job?

Name one thing city officials could have done. One thing.

The big rescue effort was 90% FEMA's responsibility, and FEMA didn't even ask for military help until 2 days after the hurricane. Outrageous neglect. They should have asked for it two days BEFORE the storm. We all saw it coming. Why didn't they? FEMA failed. And FEMA works for Bush. The head of it is a crony of his.
