As I believe I posted on the Lake New Orleans thread, I understand that the El Toro Marine base in El Toro, CA was closed. It houses some number between 50,000 and 100,000 people. . . permanently or temporarily. It is literally a city and was remodeled completely in 1985. It sits empty, as does many dozens of such bases across this country.

The people clearly recognize this fact, especially in light of the BRAC Commission on base closures and realignment. I guess we are all waiting on a high level government official to make an announcement with a plan to utilize bases to house displaced victims. However, that assumes they don't 'forget' that we have all those bases. >said sarcastically<
