Actually, after reading a bit more over the weekend, as far as a physical silver play I've begun leaning towards silver rounds, or bars as a better play than coinage..
44 degrees this morning, good sleeping weather<g>..

[Silver Eagles] DD .. you're going to pay a premium on those. They have a numismatic value added for condition. If you just want to hoard a bit of silver try a coin shop for a Bag or "Lot" of old silver coins that are really worn badly. Ones with no value added. It won't be .999 fine but you can buy it for less than Spot usually.

New Orleans Mardi Gras mints Float Financing Dabloons that are crafted by the Artists from the old New Orleans Federal Mint. They are ".999 fine". You can also search for ".925 Fine"

Silver Bars .. Silver Rounds .. Dubloons .. Olympic Commorative Sets ..

Stuff like that .. But I would suggest .. buying them in "Lots"

Check your news paper and call the person who has an ad in there that says .. We Buy Gold and Silver.

I just found this on a search .. I've never bought from them. But this may give you an idea.

If you find out what they are buying for .. and what they are selling for .. You know Bid / Ask .. then you'll be better informed. :)

Good Luck!

You can buy a contract and take delivery but that's a lot of silver.
