Have you heard that Bush wants Louisiana to turn control over to the Feds?

Like I said..they all failed. That NO was exposed to such a catastrophe is a failure of the nation.

"Heartless disconnected bastard."

It's ass covering time. Have you heard that Bush wants Louisiana to turn control over to the Feds?

Amazing. What a stunt they are trying to pull.......I hope they don't fall for it in LA.

While I am less than impressed with the way the state has prepared and responded, the Feds have been even worse. The suspicion is that they want control because things are starting to improve and if they gain control now, they can effectively push the blame totally on the locals and take credit for "saving" them. Besides, it would make it easier to muzzle the media who seem to be somewhat upset over the way things have been handled.

The media has been a real problem for them. Bush and company became infuriated when they started calling the victims refugees. In fact, on FOX, a reporter used the r word and was reprimanded.

As for disaster relief, I have worked on a disaster program and understand how they work. To find fault with the local leaders is a bit unfair. First of all, they are in the midst of the disaster themselves.......often their houses and family are in jeopardy. Secondly, most of them are experiencing a disaster for the first time as a leader. They have the basics down but when the situation is as fluid as NO its hard to know what to do.

That is why we have FEMA. FEMA is to provide the continuity of experience and background needed by local authorities. They are to act as advisors and to have the infrastructure ready to go in and do the work needed in the recovery. Unfortunately, FEMA as become a place to reward supporters under the Bush administration. But even that doesn't explain it all........they did okay in FLA last year.....not stellar but okay. It strikes me that they simply were unprepared for Katrina. It was the first major hurricane of the season and they were not in form yet. That's not an excuse but rather an explanation.
