Ann rice or whomever.....must be sitting under a basket, does that piece recognize any aspect of disaster response logistics? While I might concede her heart strings are her issues; they add nothing to the saving of lives that must go on. The piece is pure pap, without any redeeming merit in the face of the challenges we face. Get it?
If you dont.....than move to the side because your in the way.

During this crisis you failed us. You looked down on us; you dismissed our victims; you dismissed us. You want our Jazz Fest, you want our Mardi Gras, you want our cooking and our music. Then when you saw us in real trouble, when you saw a tiny minority preying on the weak among us, you called us "Sin City," and turned your backs.

It is pap because it is self-absorbed, ungrateful, and narcissistic.

It is also crafted fiction, which admittedly is Ms. Rice's particular forte.

No one has turned their backs, no one is dismissing anybody. People are trying to help. It's great that you understand her feelings, and it's great that this "story" (because that's what it is, a story) touched you. But it's also useless, because it's just indulging in a pointless emotional fantasy.

Practical people, people with integrity and commitment, are working desperately to make things better, and it is pure posturing by Ms. Rice to suggest anything otherwise.

That is what makes it pap.
