I'm sure you noticed the quote about the mayor being worried about liability for a mandatory evacuation- seems to me something needs to be done about that.

If I see one more timeline about the wonderful things that were done, collected by someone far away from the facts on the ground, I will scream.

I posted that in response to Ionesco's point about about comparing the tsunami timeline. If there was anything in there about "wonderful things" being done, I didn't notice them. I was focused on the tsunami and how long it took to get relief. There may have been a lot about the Katrina effort that was botched, but we're still ahead of the tsunami response. (Sez she damning with faint praise.)

There's value in a timeline with just the facts about timing. I'm still looking for one. CNN had a good discussion on Saturday regarding some of the complaints and whether or not they were reasonable given the timeline. How quickly could this or that have happened? (For example, it takes an estimated three days to evacuate the city.) Or did this happen before that and could it have been different? There's a need to understand such things if we're to do better next time.

Edit

Did you read the stories (multiple stories) about the trucks full of food and water being sent back?

It's common to reject out of network volunteers. I don't know enough about the ins and outs of that to evaluate it but I've seen it in organizations in which I volunteer.
