One was when an officer found out his wife had died.

Don't discount the thousands figure. New Orleans will have a lot. With little or no supplies going into the flooded areas, all those people could drink is flood water. Diarrhea can kill when combined with malnutrition. People trapped in attics or on roofs are subject to heat prostration.
