Mary, here is another excellent rant by Griffe. This one on why women can't do maths and why the Harvard bloke was right and shouldn't have apologized. lagriffedulion.f2s.com

The olde style politics was king versus serf, and then landed versus unlanded, and then well-off versus poor, and then statist versus libertarian. Now politics is becoming male versus female. That's how mature democracies, such as that in NZ, are becoming.

Women are loving a LOT of government. It's in their DNA. Blokes [real, ungirly men and presumably non-poofter ones too] prefer LESS government. Blokes like to manifest their frogs and snails and puppy dog tails nature. Sheilas like to run the world on sugar and spice and all things nice rules.

The world is increasingly like a house, with humans living in large and small urban conurbations. Women want the house tidy, orderly, no throwing stuff or getting sawdust in the curtains. Blokes don't fit naturally into cities, or houses.

Hence the demand for golf, where the blokes can go out in little gangs, armed with basis weaponry, hunting bison and climbing around in trees and creeks. It's like playing footy, with one gang of blokes versus the other tribe, the winners getting the girls and owning the footy field. The losers slink off with heads hung low. Golf and footy are displacement behaviour for frustrated hunter/warriors.

Even blokes like to have a nice cave to come home to, so the natural inclination in modern politics is for women to come to the fore. That process is most evident in New Zealand, where women run the show from top to bottom. Blokes even disguise themselves as women by shaving off their beards, becoming poofters and transexuals and even in the case of one MP, Georgina Beyer, having a sex-change medical procedure.

The Queen, Governor General, Chief Justice, Prime Minister, Speaker of House, a couple of other ministers and legal lights, Boss of Telecom [NZ's biggest company] and various others are in charge. Girlz run the average household too. They have control of the schools, especially the formative primary schools [the hand that rocks the cradle rules the world].

The USA should expect to catch up. Hilary, Condoleeza Rice, and others, are looming on the presidential political horizon. It would be fun to see a cat fight/mud wrestling between Condi and Hilary. Let's hope such a fun event is set up. With women running the world, I expect there will be fewer wars. With a woman running Iraq and a woman in the White House, I don't think there would have been a war and all those dead blokes could have been playing golf and watching footy [which is easier than actually going out and getting skooshed].

<1). Provide an atmosphere ("freedom" where those that can do things, manage things on their own, be allowed to flourish - so long as they don't start getting selfish and intrude on the freedom of others.>

I agree with that sentiment. Go Libertarians. But I'm sure you know that governments go wayyyyyyyyyyyy past ensuring the commons are protected/divvied up sensibly and that individual freedoms are protected. It's 99 parts control and nanny state kleptocratic suffocatocracy and 1 part freedom and commons protection.

2). Provide a safety net for those that cannot or will not help themsemselves. >

A safety net is different from a hammock.

PS: Here's a dopey "distinguished professor" who remains upset at Summers of Harvard pointing out why women can't do maths. educationnews.org Distinguished? Giggle. Snigger. He should read Griffe's explanation of why the melanin-rich have a low maths average talent. Hint: It isn't because of their excellent sun-resistance, contrary to popular misconception. One can have maths ability and melanin in skin. Maths takes place in the brain, not the skin. This is an example of correlation, not causation.

I note too that Griffe omits the most important variable for women doing maths [and a lot of other things] = they mature 3 years younger than males and their brains are fully grown 3 years younger. He was pointing out the maths behind the maths ability. His conjecture on why males are better is wrong [he says they went catching bison and stuff].
