Yes, it is very humid in the deep south, from June through at least October, here in Fla. But, surprisingly along the coast, especially the eastern coast it is not as hot as many northern states. That is because of the Gulf Stream, it runs at a constant temperature month in and month out of about 78 degrees which cools off the coastline. Plus, normally we have what are called on shore breezes, which means the wind blows in from the ocean, that too tends to keep it bearable on the coastline. But, if you are from a cold climate I would agree, stay away in the summer. Here in S. Fla. from say Feb to May its really like Paradise, November through January its doable, Jan. wont be hot but it could be cold. May through October is the Pennance we pay for our wonderful winter climate.
I am glad to see the aid from other countries and I was thinking to myself, Gee, I wonder if this could provide an OPPORTUNITY to restore relations with countries like Iran and Venzuala and Cuba. I would give consideration to having someone really intelligent review this situation and see what could be done. Maybe bring some of their leaders over here to see the rescue and rebuilding effort, establish new lines of communication. jdn
