Ish,

This is pure speculation on my part. A couple of weeks ago, Emanual gave an interview that was an over-the-top defense of Daley. Even though Emanual ran in a liberal lake front district, he ran with the full support and enthusiasm of both Daley and the Democratic machine. He has Rostenkowski's seat, for God's sake. Being a congressman is a very small stage for Rahm. Durbin and Obama are not going anywhere soon, so Rahm has to focus on either the mayoral slot or the governorship. Blago may lose next year, but it will not be in a Democratic primary. If Daley does step down, he would probably be comfortable with Emanual. Bill Clinton could throw a call into Jesse Sr. and it is a done deal. Jesse Jr. has to know that he is not ready for prime time. As I said, this is just speculation on my part. Chicago may not be ready for a Jewish mayor.
