Sounds like you are in for a tough fight. Thermal insulation should be an easy sell, since the world is looking at $70 oil.

Are screen doors used extensively ? How about sliding glass doors ? Could be seen as a security issue.

Elmat I am in the process of moving to Curitiba from Boston MA in January of 2006. I currently own a very nice TV set in the US that uses the NTSC standard. However Brasil uses PAL-M, and I'm not sure my TV will work when connected to the local cable companies. I realize you said not to convert the signal but how do I use my TV in Brasil without having to buy a new one there of course?
