People who are trapped, people who were raped, people who had their throats slit, people who were shot, beaten and robbed.....and the police need a vacation. Now mayor Nagin announces he is going to send his police to Las Vagas for a vacation. Is there any wonder why this city was unprepared? I have never seen a poorer perspective on priorities in all of my life. Could you imagine if the NYPD went to Vegas on 9/18? What a joke. How many NYPD's got a free trip to vegas in 2001? Especially just a week after the attack. Has any "news" reporter asked,"Chief, why did one third of your officers cut and run?" Nagin actually asked FEMA to pay for those vacations too! I'm not going to hold my breath, but I do hope that at least one of our intrepid reporters asks the commissioner why he thinks the police force really deserves a Las Vegas vacation when its remnants should be out on the streets of New Orleans helping in the recovery operations. And oh yes, will the department really be taking back all the deserters and looters? Any idea how many cops joined the looters, Chief ? CNN showed a reporter in a store--Walmart I think--talking to several female NOPD officers who had shopping carts full of clothes and stuff. He asked them if they were patrolling to stop the looters--and they said something lame like, sure we are. They were clearly helping themselves to all sort of NOT VITAL items. When the reporter asked them what they were doing there one female officer said snidely--what are you doing here? It was ALL caught on tape-- Video of police looting (very slow but worth a look)smart.is Lives would have been saved if the policemen stayed on their job and did their duty. I saw an on the street interview with one officer who was furious about the deserters. He was yelling that they raised their right hand and swore, what did they swear to? and on and on, he was so mad, he probably would have punched one of them He said they weren't his brothers (in arms). He was working the streets. Nagin did say that enough money was raised for the New Orleans police going to Las Vegas to have $100 a piece... He'd better give his cops more than that or it's likely they'll start looting Vegas as well.
