From Russ' thread - "From Fleck's reader:" .

Bill,

As a charter subscriber and faithful reader, let me say that life in southern Louisiana right now is just awful. I live in Thibodaux, just west of New Orleans, and despite the fact that we were "missed" by the storm, we got 80mph winds Monday morning and some minor flooding after that. Our power is out, our internet access and cable are lost (I'm a surgeon writing this from our local hospital), there is no gasoline or fresh food, and our once quiet little community is now being swarmed over by refugees who have made it clear that they now own the place and will do as they please, including looting local businesses and our local college. This whole situation will be a mess for a long time, and a friend of mine who works for Hibernia Bank as an executive doubts that their loan portfolio will worth anything as widespread defaults in the area are now expected. My house is "locked down" and friends who used to harass me about owning a Rottie now want to come over to sleep more peacefully at night. We are truly witnessing the very basal end of the human situation, and any effort made to try to help people is met with either deep thanks, or (unfortunately just as common) scorn and anger. This is really a mess, and if I had TV access, I would bet that it wouldn't be doing it justice.

You know, I read that, and my brain automatically changed "Of Mice and Men" to "All the King's Men" and I didn't even notice it. Oh, well, it's a Buckdancer's Choice. Wait, that's James Dickey. I am so confused. I need Deliverance. <G>
