Montana!
Collapse by Jared Diamond has a whole chapter on the Montana environmental problems with a good focus on the bitterroot valley.

Let us know if you agree or disagree.

You won't really get to know or see Montana from only touring the west. In fact you are wasting your time. You will form an opinion but it might only be partially correct.

It is much like Coastal California is not like the Central Valley and Northern Idaho want's to succede from the south and Minnesota is so much different then the North and the rural areas which are 95% of the state.

The people have much to do with the states, not just the geography or the place with the best airport.

Enjoy and tell me what you found when you get back. I was educated in Bozeman, worked and lived in Missoula and surrounding areas, and spent a few years in Helena.

There are some great Saloons and some good fishing holes but you have to walk to them, not the Saloons the holes.
