Sorry, and belay my last. The DAILY chart of SPX shows the whole story, and I am wrong to look only at the WEEKLY chart. The Market opened that week of 09/10 up as the weekly shows. But, on 9/11 the market closed for the rest of that week until 09/17 and it moved down that whole week. THEN, the SPX would have killed the puts by moving up from that point in the usual zig zag manner until the first of the new year.

"9/11" happened before the market open...what you're seeing is what happened on Monday 09/10.....look again, there is no daily stick for 9/11 because the markets never opened (futures markets did for the premarket session and were shut down before 9:30 am, at lock limit down as I recall):
