There is nothing in the Constitution that says poverty should be systemic and endemic, that America should have a high infant mortality rate for a first world country, or that precludes everyone having health care and a quality public education.

I get really tired of that old Constitutional argument. Civilized societies change over the centuries. Slaves are now free, and women can vote, for example. Time marches on!

I am a capitalist through and through, and I resent your allusion to my beliefs being Communistic. All of the capitalist societies of western Europe, where they have essentially the same individual freedoms as we do in America also, have managed to do a much better job at leveling the playing field so that their citizens can succeed, but at the same time care for the percentage of any population that is disabled or needy in some way.

The Constitution does not rule out compassion as a societal value; I do not see a clause against it anywhere. What "liberals" realize is that a society where everyone has the tools for success like good prenatal and child nutrition and health care, and excellent public education, is a society where people can succeed. The kind of society you envision is hardly a society at all. It is a cold, hard place where the rich profit from the labor of the poor, and the poor, being desperate, prey on the rich in a criminal sense. Not a very evolved place, and you can have it.
