My point is that a person has to be discerning
and recognize the agendas of media types, whether
commentators of the Limbaugh or Coulter ilk
or "journalists" like Russert, Blitzer, etc.

In today's world, journalists operate more like
commentators or editorializers. Sometimes the slant
is subtle, other times not so subtle.

Caveat emptor has to be the watchword for
any consumer of so-called "news."

I wouldn't expect Coulter or Limbaugh to be any
more balanced and objective than I would expect
Dowd or Klugman to be balanced and objective. But any
reader or listener of those folks should know their biases
going in. If they don't, they'll be sucked in.

Your post prompted my response since you seemed to
equate "brains" with folks like Russert, Blitzer, etc.

I agree that they're smart, but not for the reasons you suggest.

They're not playing to a "smart" audience and that's
the telling point, imo.

In sum, I don't think anyone should take at face value
what they hear from any media source, particularly if they
don't appreciate the agenda that is being serviced.
