While it doesn't directly affect me, I have relatives who are directly threatened by that exact same thing. As near as I can tell, Brown doesn't do anything he hasn't been told to do. Since everyone was on vacation, he just couldn't pull it together. Last year, when Bush was breathing down his neck, he responded. This year when no one did that, he didn't. They are doing a good job of keeping the death toll under their hats, aren't they? Which means it is much, much worse than anyone expects. So the 10k figure is definitely on the low end.

John...trust me, only a fool would rely on FEMA for immediate help after a hurricane. You have got to cover your own a$$. Strap your roof down, have ice, coolers...gas grill, generator.
