I know in French criminal law, you're guilty until you PROVE your innocence. Is it like that in LA?

Don't know "big city precedent"? That's what you call "accepted ethical standards".

Admittance = authorized to enter, as in admitting your foot into your mouth.

I'm sure you didn't notice but the character of your reply asserted the validity of my criticism. After all, you are only a lawyer, and that means liar. Liars never remember what comes out of their many mouths.

Here's the coup de grace confirming it: "and it woke me up to how amoral, extortionary, and unfair the civil legal system is--especially in Louisiana."

The system is what you make of it. Most lawyers have your attitude. That's why I said, "The law was the injured party here. The legal machinery engaged in a process that only could be called extortion." If most people took your attitude, our society would be amoral and extortionary, and it would eventually cease to exist. Fortunately for society you have to contend with those who won't deceive to advance career nor to get money, whether you are willing to give that admittance or not.
