It is noted in the bible that Moses came down the mountain with a permanent facial disfiguration. He was to wear a mask for the remainder of his life (except when talking face to face with God in his tent or otherwise without witnesses)until he was eventually killed by God (remember that God had attempted to kill Moses previous to His actual killing).

The question is, though--did Moses ACTUALLY have horns as his disfigurement--as believed by the ancient church, and as painted by Michelangelo for the church? Or was it some other sort of disfigurement?

The relationship between Moses and God was a strange one. They seemed to both love and hate one another. They quarrelled and argued frequently, but at times they seemed to be content in one anothers company. It is not disputed anywhere that Moses was God's ONLY friend. It is perhaps for this reason that God had such ambivalent feelings toward His only friend and companion.
