Not sure what your entire message means, we were not talking about govt and not sure what your inference there means.

None-the-less.

1st, the point needs to be made that the cost of gas as related to crude oil and that price is set on a world market, not by the US. And that money goes to the producing group, usually a country such as Venezuala or Russia and makes up over 50% of the cost of gasoline that you buy. In the US, taxes, on average, add 18% to the cost.

Then consideration needs to be made for the 22 blends that are required via your friendly environmentalist wacko. This is a logistical and costly adventure.

So after cost of delivery, the margin allowed for the local wholeseller and retailer, the oil companies can control about 20% of the cost of a gallon of gas that you pay for.

Next, Let's discuss where does an oil company like Shell stands in relation to other industries of earnings/ dollar of sales in 2005. Here's a snap shot of of groups

So bottom line is AS's rhetoric about Bush's oil buddies gouging is nothing more than that.... rhetoric. It's no where close and quite in line.
