i expect many of companies are writing it off to charity (expenses). to tie up a few cruise ships one can expect some type of reimbursement but perhaps they are also adding other items that they are not being credited for or the rates are discounted.

it sounds like everyone is being taken care of

Some are, some aren't. The city of Houston will be well compensated for it's efforts by FEMA. Continental is getting paid for seats out of NO to Houston, etc. The ones referred to in the article are gratis. A lot of firms are under contract with FEMA to provide services. Others are doing it free, plus donating money.

The outpouring of private help during this emergency will never be fully tabulated.

I read Carnival Cruise was going to be being paid by the government $160 per NIGHT for each person housed on their boat, for up to 6 months.

If that is true its just another example of our government at work wasting resources. That rate is well over the normal CRUISE cost rate, especially for groups. Our jeep club schedules cruises every other year or so, latest will be 4/2/06 and covers Southern Carribean. For 8 nights its about 650 for inside cabin, 850 for outside cabin and 1,000 for Balcony (their deluxe) per person double occupancy.

Before my brother died he lived in a Mobile Home park in Okeechobee, Fla. Lot rent there was $150 a month. After the hurricanes last year FEMA took up all their vacant lots, moved in brand new shiny trailers and paid over $300 a space (double). Owner of the park was DELIRIOUS WITH HAPPINESS. jdn
