You have had high school physics and you consider yourself competent to make such a statement? You do know your ruler can expand and contract with temperature, don't you?

"It came from my training in science."

Please accept my apology if I do not understand properly. I am only a trained skeptic. The science you appear to believe is widely refuted by other science. You appear ready to accept the science you want to believe and willing to dismiss the science that contradicts what your preferred results dictate.

The truth is that no honest scientist would state that the temperature variances recorded could not be accounted for by random fluctuations. I lived the seventies when the fud was about the coming ice age. Now the fud is about global warming. In the history of the earth it appears the trends being described relate to hundreds of thousand of years, not the handful we have recorded.
