Implicit in this comment was my personal realization of the loss of life of first responders in 911.

"And 911 first responders had anger at an enemy as a emotional safety valve and motivator. "

But also immediately after 911 hope still remained that there were still missing and not lost. And the hope and fear had a fixed physical focus point.
