Sure they get 100 MPG. :-) My gas mileage meter on my old Aerostar reported 60+ for 10 miles one time, peaking at 99 (the max it could display). Tailwind plus downhill into Spokane sure helped.

I drove a Prius rental after the latest gen came out (20 months ago) and I was shocked at how low it reported my city driving, generally 20-25 mpg. I'm a conservative driver too. Perhaps it needed more break-in but that was still far below my expectations.

CU says, "Hybrids, whose selling point is fuel thriftiness, had some of the biggest disparities, with fuel economy averaging 19 mpg below the EPA city rating."
