Anything can happen, but I expect to see a grand coalition.

While many seem to want a change, nobody is optimistic about the alternatives.

The papers have made a big deal about the heritage of Merkel's borrowed Reagan remark. Small details like this one will play well to the conservative base, but alienate those that want a change, but fear the complete erosion of the social safety net.

A Reagan "borrow and spend" revolution would devastate Germany.

Germany has achieved the success they are today because of two generations of fiscal prudence.

It would be sad to see them throw that away in a giant wave of Reaganesque irresponsibility.
