Ever read the History of the Peloponnesian War?

Athena eventually was beaten by Sparta when the cost of their far flung military bases became to great for their budget. We don't have to sell the entire base, just take some money off the table, and get the troops off the soil of enemies pretending to be friends.

"It looks like the 'rules' they set up for the euro were never really imposed and it will fail. Each country will eventually be printing their own currency-- hopefully leaving all the euros in Germany and France."

The rules were good ones. The socialist states in old (western) Europe just could not get their citizens to agree to fiscal prudence. This is probably good for the US economy long term.
