They would be Bush's FEMA guys who gave that program for Bush to announce in public. "Michael Brown, the embattled director of the Federal Management and Emergency Agency, said those eligible for the unprecedented debit cards would be permitted to use the money "for emergency supplies they need" such as clothing. "The concept is to get them some cash on hand which allows them, empowers them to make their own decisions about what do they need to have to repair their own lives," he said."foxnews.com ------- Did Brownie specify non-designer clothing only? Did Brownie specify that there was a $20 limit on outfits? Republicans shouldn't be yelling about designer purchases since, during Katrina, Condie was showing how things are done by spending $7,000 on shoes in NYC after seeing spamalot. If that's the image of the Bush administration, can you really fault people for shopping Vuitton? Now, really. Get real. Geez Loueeeeeeeze. The funny thing is shelters are saying, 'send cash, don't send any more clothing' which goes to show that as a country we're short on cash (negative savings rate) and long on crappola clothing. Does that say something about our priorities? BTW now Bushies want people to get direct deposits to their banks, if they can figure where their banks are. Alternatively, they can have paperwork and checks mailed to their homes, if they can figure out where their homes are. Meanwhile, since Davis-Bacon isn't in effect due to Bush's order AND Bushies have zero knowledge of how to manage money, the REAL outrage (in terms of actually dollars) will be Halliburton, Fluor, Bechtel et al taking full and total profiteering advantage of this disaster. They will do so on the backs of the American taxpayer AND on the backs of American workers. Save your outrage because you will need it for that whopper. PS. Reconstruction is being slowed in Iraq...due to lack of funds. Jeepers. Get out your checkbook, it's going to be a bumpy ride.
