Children idealize their role models. Their parents are the primary role models. Neighbors can be role models. Many successful people learn to idealize other successful people. TV programs and movies provide role models for many people. Why does Hollywood produce shows in which there are single mothers? In the fifties and sixties Ozzie and Harriet and then Leave it to Beaver (and many others) provided role models of stable households. BTW - fresc may not have been able to reply. It is now on the ban list.
