Copper Rises to a Record in London on Signs of Higher Demand

Sept. 28 (Bloomberg) -- Copper rose to a record in London on
speculation demand may rise for the metal used in manufacturing,
wiring and construction.
U.S. orders for durable goods gained 3.3 percent in August,
the fourth increase in five months, the Commerce Department said
today in Washington.
Copper for delivery in three months on the London Metal
Exchange rose as much as $43, or 1.1 percent, to $3,823 a metric
ton and was at that price as of 3:17 p.m. local time. The contract
has gained 21 percent this year.
